About FREE AOG CHURCH
Welcome to FREE AOG.
What is the primary purpose of the Church? Surely it is to complete the task that Jesus commissioned us to do.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
So the primary purpose of the Church is to make disciples (become like Jesus). However, in order to make disciples, one must first become one. Here’s how we do it.
1. Become Disciples
We commit to:
i) Meaningful worship & prayer (personally & corporately);
ii) Study Biblical teaching and apply it (personally & corporately);
iii) Accountabile and encouraging relationships (personally & corporately)
2. Make Disciples
Once an individual has experienced the power of the Gospel in transforming their own life, they naturally want to share their testimony. No course, no program, no literature or sermon can make you share the Gospel. It is either in your heart or it is not.
Those who have the love of Christ in them will be compelled by it; and the result of that compulsion is that you would share the good news - "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life" John 3:16
We believe that by accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour and allowing Him to be the Lord over every area of your life; you can be truly set FREE. Free to live, free to love, FREE INDEED!
Anyone wanting to link with this purpose in life can do our three part ‘discipleship’ course - "The A B C of Discipleship". They are one hour per week small group studies.
As born-again believers professing a desire to become more like Christ, it makes sense that we would value what He values. These four values listed below are certainly not the extent or limit of what God values, but they are certainly the most obvious ones, and serve as a good place for us to start.
Truth is something that the modern world finds almost incomprehensible. This is because we have moved away from the belief in absolute truth toward 'relative' truths. This is where something can be true for you, something contradictory is true for me yet at the same time is somehow still 'true'. Of course this is illogical but it is the way society has gone.
People would rather accept an illogical, irrational system of truth rather than admit there could be absolute truth: Truth that doesn't change over time and isn't subject to political, social and moral fluctuations. We believe in absolute truth. The truth that God, His principles, His character not only won't change, but can't change.
Here are three core truths that never have, never can and never will change.
Truth 1 - Only one God - The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are the three equal members of the Godhead. Each member being equal in importance and glory. This perfect Tri part Unity is called the Trinity.
Truth 2 - Only one truth - All that can be comprehended of God is revealed in Scripture. The Bible is not to be worshipped but should be treated as having the authority to speak into our lives. It is the most definable way in which we learn of God, learn God's ways and learn our correct response to God. The Bible is God's written word to mankind.
Truth 3 - Only one way - We live in an age of great spiritual awareness: the market place seems to be overloaded with religion and spirituality. It is true that there are many paths of spirituality but it is not true that they all lead to God. Jesus said of Himself in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me". The apostle Paul declares in Acts 2:12 "There is no other name... by which man can be saved" - this name is Jesus Christ.
Without faith it is simply not possible to please God (Heb 11:6). Faith in God is the most practical and logical thing you could have. Many put their faith in fame, fortune, and fanciful stories, but we put our faith in God.
Faith in God keeps us grounded in this life and prepares us for the next. It's nothing weird or mystical; it's just faith. An equally good translation of the Greek word for 'faith' is 'trust'. You know that experience where you believe that someone is going to do what they said they would do... you trust them! Well, faith is that simple. Through the Bible God gives His principles, His priorities, His promises. He can be trusted, so we put our faith in Him.
God gives us all enough faith, we must choose what we put our faith in.
Now, more so than ever before in human history has hope been so obviously lacking; revealing how crucial it is to the human condition. Without hope, faith can't exist. People who lose hope, lose faith. Many letters written by people who have taken their own lives often cite something along the lines of "it's hopeless"; "what's the point". This is a world which has lost all hope.
We believe the hope for all mankind rests in knowing God and being surrendered to God. It is only through Jesus Christ that life can have true hope; and it is only through Jesus that true hope is found. If your hope is in Jesus, your future is secure.
Self-focused love is driven by an underlying philosophy of "What's in it for me?". If we don't get enough out of 'loving' someone else then we simply stop doing it. But the unique love that only comes from God... 'agape' love; that's different. This 'agape' is the love spoken of in the Bible.
Jesus left us with two commandments:-
1. to love God - with all our heart, soul, mind and strength
2. to love others - as much as we love ourselves... even to the point of preferring others.
We believe that only through allowing God to change our hearts can this ever happen. Loving selflessly doesn't come naturally - we need supernatural help. Without God's love (agape) we are unable to fulfil the only two commandments that Jesus gave us.
This love of God (Agape) knows no such boundaries as gender, race, colour, or creed. It is God's love and is for all.
"We are FREE to CONNECT with God; COMMIT to change and CARRY the call".
OUR MISSION is to CONNECT, COMMIT and CARRY:
* CONNECT with God and with those who desire to know the truth about life, its origin and its purpose through exploring the Bible's teachings;
* COMMIT to change, in our hearts and lives, to meaningful worship and prayer; and to unity, by being accountable and encouraging in our relationships;
* CARRY the call of God to the nations, in obedience to the Great Commission, proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and the Only Way Truth and Life.
Explanation of the Key Words
Galatians 5:1 tells us "it is for Freedom that Christ has set us free". This freedom is from God, not man. The natural man doesn't understand this freedom or what it means to truly be free because it doesn't serve man's agenda. But, someone who knows God and has been set free by God understands true freedom.
We are set FREE to do all and be all that we are called to be. Only when someone has been set FREE can they know true love, true joy and true peace.
We discover the depths of this great and wonderful freedom through:
i) CONNECT - meaningful connection with God;
ii) COMMIT - committing to becoming Christ-like; and
iii) CARRY - carrying the universal call of love and unity.
Freedom from fear, hate, concerns and judgment of self and others. Freedom that no one can take from you, freedom worth living for... that's what it means to be FREE.
At FREE AOG we believe that the Sunday Service is deliberately and purposefully set aside for you to connect with God, and with others. Music, song, prayer, Communion, preaching / teaching, and altar ministry; are opportunities to assist you in CONNECTing with God.
Any believer, who has matured as a disciple of Jesus Christ, will attest to the great importance of personal attendance and active involvement in their local Church. Our mission is to CONNECT with those who desire to know the truth about life, its origin and its purpose through exploring the Bible's teachings together.
Hebrews 10:24-25 exhorts believers not to give up meeting together: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
We COMMIT to change, in our hearts and lives. We COMMIT to meaningful worship and prayer. We COMMIT to applying Biblical teaching to our lives, in surrender to God. We COMMIT to unity, by being accountable and encouraging in our relationships.
"COMMIT" represents our discipleship cycle: 1) New Christians Group; 2) Discipleship Group, then; 3) Life Group. These are the stages of movement in the life of our Church that allow anyone who wants to be involved at FREE AOG to understand what we believe in, what we stand for, and what we strive for.
Everyone is encouraged to be a part of these groups as a way to develop spiritual maturity and find their place in the house of God. You too will benefit from deciding to COMMIT to change.
Our mission is to CARRY the call of God to the nations, in obedience to the Great Commission, proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and the only Way, Truth and Life.
We are called to CARRY the Light of Christ into this dark world. There is no ministry higher than this undeniable, unavoidable call to CARRY the love of God to each other and to those in need. We at FREE AOG seek to see this call outworked completely through every area and member of our church.
How will the world know that we are His disciples? Jesus' answer is simple, "by the way you love one another".
